Cold-hearted orb rules the night
Removes the colours from our sight
Red is gray and yellow white
But we decide which is right
And which is an illusion
I guess this barely counts as a song lyric (this week’s Sinful Sunday theme) as it was more of a spoken poem from the Moody Blues concept album Days Of Future Passed.
I became aware of the words in the middle of a particularly gloomy period of teenage angst and they have been with me ever since, popping up as a recurring, but somehow welcome, ear-worm anytime I find myself out at night.
I tried to edit this picture to suggest nighttime restlessness, sadly a regular state for me these days as I struggle with recurring, but definitely unwelcome, insomnia.
I’ve linked to the full track below. I expect the Moody Blues will pre-date most of you, but they were part of my growing up.

It’s something that resonates with me too, I wish I could transform the restlessness into something productive but it never works that way, does it.
I remember listening to that on my older brother’s AM transistor radio! Part of my youth too!
I grew up with this album; it was one of my mother’s favorites. It was very “concept” at the time; these days spoken-word ‘music’ is pretty mainstream. 🙂 (At least in the states.)
I’m sorry you’re dealing with insomnia. I’ve had my own bouts with that particular condition. I go down swingin’ every time, but it definitely kicks my ass.
Wishing you well-rested nights (in white satin) as soon as possible.
